Dear E-Letter Subscriber,
This past month has been one of great blessings for the Center! The articles below highlight just a sampling of the many events and happenings with which the Center was involved. I particularly want to express my gratitude to all who support the Center, its mission, and its various activities. Events have been well attended and support of our annual fundraiser was strong. I know that we have many more blessings awaiting us!
Warmly,
Michael J. Tkacik, Ph.D.

| March 4, 2008--CCJS Co-Hosted Interfaith Panel Discussion |

The Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies is grateful to the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Florida International Museum for co-sponsoring an evening of exciting and engaging interfaith dialogue. Through the generous support of the Saint Petersburg Palladium Theater in offering the venue, our honored panelists, Rabbi James Rudin, longtime Director of the American Jewish Committee's Department for Interreligious Affairs, Bishop Robert Lynch of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, and Dr. Philip Cunningham, Founding Director of Boston College's Center for Christian-Jewish Learning, provided a large audience with rich perspectives on the history and current state of Catholic Jewish relations - a topic vital to the future of both communities.

Celebrating 48 Years of Interfaith Dialogue at Tampa's Congregation Rodeph Sholom |
|
On March 5th Rabbi Marc Sack and Congregation Rodeph Sholom Sisterhood hosted the 48th Annual Ann Zack Interfaith Tea and Reception. More than 90 Jewish, Protestant and Catholic women attended this year. This prestigious event honors the memory of Sisterhood president, Ann Zack, who in 1960 instituted an interfaith tea and reception to encourage understanding and friendship among women of all religious faiths and denominations.
48th Annual Ann Zack Interfaith Tea and Reception: Valerie Blau, Rodeph Sholom Sisterhood Event Chair; Linda Taggart; Rabbi Marc Sack; Gail Whiting, CCJS Chair; Laurin Jacobson
This year's program, titled "Faith, Friendship and Adventure: Personal Perspectives From the Vatican," featured Rodeph Sholom congregant and Hillel faculty member, Laurin Jacobson, and her friend, Linda Taggart, CCJS board member and adjunct professor at Saint Leo University. Laurin and Linda traveled together to Rome in October 2007 for the first Vatican-hosted conference for pairs of Catholic and Jewish teachers from 24 cities in the United States. The conference was sponsored by the New York-based Interreligious Information Center, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Pontifical Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews.
Laurin and Linda met 5 years ago because of their shared interest in teaching Hebrew. Since then, Laurin has been a guest lecturer in Linda's classes helping to prepare Catholic deacons who visit a synagogue service as part of their scripture studies. Their friendship and shared interest in Jewish-Christian relations made them the perfect pair to attend the Vatican conference. Laurin and Linda intend to continue doing their part supporting the cause of respectful, reciprocal, and constructive interfaith education and dialogue.
